Great article for someone who wishes to read The Bible for the first time. But, perhaps it would have been helpful to also recommend what version to read (NIV, ESV, NLT, KJV, etc.) for a first-timer?
Good question! The best Bible on the market right now is the new Ignatius Press Catholic Study Bible RSVCE. It is a TOME but filled with excellent, faithful notes. On the protestant side, the KJV is the poetic, traditional translation, which is great for the Psalms. The NIV is still first for evangelicals with the ESV being more literal and favored by more traditional circles. All of our studies, quotes, etc., come from the RSVCE. Hope this helps!
I employ the Lutheran one, with its use of picturesque German. Akin to the language employed in Switzerland. Unluckily, It is considered antiquated in Germany and Austria.
grazie, giusto, la cosa migliore e' partire dai vangeli, io sono partito da quello di Luca, ma tenendo presente che la parola di Dio e' l'unica lettura dove l'INCONTRO PRECEDE IL RACCONTO, per questo un approccio solo nozionale e concettuale non e' adeguato, finirebbe per annoiare. Essendo parola viva, parola fatta carne, la si comprende per "CONNATURALITA'", cioe' instaurando un rapporto di confidenza quotidiana col suo autore, che non e' un defunto personaggio del passato o che si trova in altro luogo, ma e' qui, presente in ogni istante, che non aspetta altro che facciamo un po' di spazio e gli diamo un po' di tempo per poter entrare. Una piccola preghiera prima di cominciare la lettura e' sufficiente, il resto lo fara' lui.
